Introduction

What is Nestfold about?

The initial idea is about producing innovative shelters that can be preinstalled at out of reach areas or more possibly dropped from a rescue plane of helicopter. The shelters are useful during emergency situations due to natural disasters, where people get trapped and/or the access is impossible to their rescue or there is lack of rescue members and need for priority rescue etc. Every citizen has the ability to check through the mobile app developed in order to find their way to the nearest shelter or get informed on the whereabout and whenabout of the availability of a shelter dropped by air.

The recommended shelter is designed to easily deployed and withstand many natural disasters like fires, floods, earthquakes and landslides. After it’s dropped to the ground, every shelter is deployable and unfolds to 3 times bigger than its initial size by human hand. Multiple shelters can be transferred with just one flight. Every shelter can accommodate up to 18 people and store food for 6 days, first aid and communication with the central information system.

Also a Nestfold shelter can be used to collect local status data like oxygen level, temperature inside and outside the structure, wind velocity and direction, velocity of the structure if it's being dragged by water or other force and send those information into the central information control. Satellite real time images confirm the data that are being send by the shelters so experts can foresee and prevent or mitigate the exposure of people to the disaster. Our idea is actually about «Disaster Management for the People» with the goal to directly minimize casualties.
